Salty and Smokey, Rich and Delicious!

Kipper fillets served in sunflower oil and just a little salt. Perfect for a protein-packed breakfast that’s high in omega-3.

Not only are kippers low in calories, high in protein and swimming in omega-3 fatty acids, they are also a rich source of iron, an essential nutrient required for optimal health.

These delicious kipper fillets can be enjoyed in many different ways depending on your preference, some ideas include;

– Straight from the tin accompanied by your favourite crusty bread!
– Using a fork, mash kippers into guacamole and use as a dip for whole grain tortilla chips or crunchy celery sticks.
– Cracker stackers – Drain a can of kipper snacks and mash with a (plastic) fork. Add a dash of hot sauce to taste and then make sandwiches using whole grain crackers.
– Spiced rice, kippers and poached eggs.

These Kippers can be eaten hot or cold. To heat either remove from the can and microwave in a suitable covered container to manufacturers instructions or heat in the can by immersing the unopened can in boiling water, simmering for 7 minutes, placing the can in cold water for 10 seconds then covering with a cloth when lifting the ring pull tab.

John West brought the great taste of Pacific Salmon to the UK in 1857 , and since then, they have made a name for thmselves when it comes to fish.

Today, they sell everything from Easy Peel Mackerel to No Drain Tuna in fridge friendly pots, but ensure to remember our rich and unique heritage.

None of this would be possible were it not for one man and his big ideas. John West was born in Linlithgow, Scotland. A younger son, not entitled to an inheritance, so had to make his own wealth. As it turns out, this bad luck was to be our good fortune.

Like many young men of his time, John sets out for the Americas to make his fortune. He landed in Canada and married his wife, Mary, before training as a millwright. By 1848, the Californian gold rush is in full-fever. John responds to its call.

John’s hunt for gold was unfruitful, but like any great entrepreneur, he didnt give up. The US government offers free land in Oregon for lumberjacks, and by 1851, John’s secured 640 acres. He clears mighty redwoods with just a saw and axe. In their place, he erects his own sawmills

Despite two sawmills to run and a family of eight to look after, John opts for a new challenge. He sets up a salmon salterie, packing salted, wild salmon into wooden barrels. They’re shipped as far as England, and the John West name becomes synonymous with quality fish.
