Containing antacid to neutralise excess stomach acid, Rennie Peppermint tablets work fast to relieve the symptoms of heartburn and indigestion.

Rennie Peppermint tablets contain two naturally-occurring antacids called calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate which neutralise excess stomach acid by turning it into water & other natural substances. Calcium carbonate acts directly in the oesophagus, as well as the stomach, and both antracids are then eliminated by your body.

RENNIE PEPPERMINT DOSAGE

The usual dosage is one to two tablets, up to 3-4 times per day. This medicine is for adults only, it is not recommended for use in children and adolescents below age 18. Prolonged use should be avoided. Do not exceed the stated dose of maximum of eleven tablets a day. If symptoms persist after seven days further medical advice should be sought.

Rennie is suitable for use in pregnancy or when breastfeeding if taken as instructed. However, if you are pregnant always talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine.

Each tablet contains calcium carbonate 680mg, magnesium carbonate 80mg, sucrose 250mg and glucose 250mg amongst other ingredients – please see leaflet for more information.

Heartburn is the name given to the burning feeling or heat that begins in your chest and rises upwards to the throat. It usually comes in waves and is in response to stomach acid rising up through a valve from the stomach into the oesophagus (food pipe). In most cases, the burning sensation or pain is due to stomach acid irritating the unprotected oesophagus.

Heartburn usually happens after meals, when you go to bed or during the night, and can last for several hours or more. Many people suffer sleepless nights as a result of heartburn because the lying down position can contribute to the condition and increase the pain.

Heartburn is one of the most common symptoms of GORD – Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease. It might sound scary, but in most cases GORD is not a serious condition and is experienced by one in ten people every day. However, persistent episodes can damage the lining of the oesophagus, so have a chat with your GP or pharmacist if you’re at all concerned.

Indigestion, also known as dyspepsia, is a general term for pain or discomfort felt after meals in the stomach region, associated with difficulty in digesting food. It can strike at any time, but is most common shortly after eating.

Indigestion is very normal and most people will experience it at some point. You could suffer a couple of times a year or feel symptoms regularly. The discomfort or pain of indigestion can range from mild to severe and can last for a few minutes to several unhappy hours.

Signs and symptoms of indigestion are:

A pain that typically starts in the upper abdomen and moves up behind your breastbone
Pain behind the ribs
Nausea and/or vomiting
A rumbling or gurgling stomach
A knotted stomach or cramps
Bloated stomach
Feeling uncomfortable after eating
Excessive burping or flatulence
A burning sensation in your belly

When you eat, your stomach produces acid. Indigestion is often caused by excess stomach acid coming into contact with the sensitive, protective lining of the stomach, the top part of the bowel, or the oesophagus, which can cause soreness and swelling. This produces a feeling of discomfort which can feel like a ‘fire in your belly’, particularly if your digestive lining is especially sensitive to acid.
